As part of the work of the Teachers’ Commission of the Superior Council, an integrated course was proposed between the students of Gimnasio Sabio Caldas and Gimnasio Moderno, as a fundamental component for the definition of global citizenship.
This ideal meeting space between both institutions, was given for the elective classes of the eleventh grade students of Gimnasio Moderno and the Philosophy class for the tenth grade students of Gimnasio Sabio Caldas. The course, which is the first to be opened for the curriculum of both schools, is an opportunity for the exchange of ideas between the institutions, about daily life through Philosophy. The teachers in charge of this class are Luis Rojas from Gimnasio Sabio Caldas and Santiago Espinosa from Gimnasio Moderno.
Through an innovative methodology, the students chose 3 topics to work on: the body and feminism; justice, equality and difference; and love in the times of Tinder. Each module will have 5 sections. First, the issue will be raised, then students must read and research about the topic. Afterwards, a guest expert from the Universidad de los Andes, who sponsored the project, will join the discussion. Afterwards, the students will organize a debate to discuss the problems raised and finally they will share their experience of what they have learned in class.
The course is innovative because it connects both institutions virtually, students work in hybrid mode. It is also an opportunity for students to see co-ed classes, better understand the country and educate global citizens, leaders who understand the world through differences.
