On March 18, Gimnasio Moderno celebrated its 110th anniversary with a solemn ceremony held at La Raqueta. It is worth remembering that the Moderno was founded on March 18, 1914 and throughout more than a century, it has promoted critical thinking, ethical values and the protection of the individual liberties of its students.
From 9:00 a.m., hundreds of gymnasians of all generations proudly approached the school that saw them grow up, the one that formed them with unique values and that despite the passage of time, today continues to practice the same founding ideals of Don Agustín.
The inaugural activity of the celebration began with the presentation of the martial band of the school, which showed the public a great repertoire, accompanied by the anthem of Gimnasio Moderno.

Following this act, the alumnus and prominent news anchor, Jorge Alfredo Vargas, who was the master of ceremony of the event, began the ceremonial acts.

One of the highlights of the ceremony was the launching of the book “Illustrated History of Gimnasio Moderno 1914-2024”, a publication that portrays the history of the school through images. This work pays tribute to the gymnasium community, which has been formed with the values of wisdom, hope and inspiration.
In an exciting way, the students who will enter the school in the middle of the year, the “Los Torreones” course, which serves as an adaptation to the gymnasium life, sang the birthday song and presented themselves to the whole school.
Before the end of the event, the president of the Superior Council, Carl Langebaek Rueda, addressed the audience and made the announcement in which he informed the community the name of the new Rector of the College. In this case, alumnus Juan Sebastián Hoyos who will assume the position replacing Rector Víctor Alberto Gómez Cusnir, who has held the post for 10 years. The students enjoyed the traditional “ternera a la llanera” and various activities that took place in different parts of the campus.
