COMPUTER CLASS
These were the first computers to arrive at school. It was the “Radio Shack TRS-80, Model III”. In them, students wrote “El Aguilucho” and “El Pichón”, learned programming language and became familiar with the emerging technology.

BUST FOR THE FOUNDER
Gloria Nieto de Arias, daughter of Mister Agustín, discovers the bust erected in memory of her father, on the tenth anniversary of the school founder’s disappearance. Since then, the sculpture presides over the most important acts that take place in La Raqueta.

MARIA HELENITA
María Helena Amador Mateus represented the essence of the school. In addition to having been the eternal and faithful collaborator of Mister Agustín, she had the virtue of greeting the students by their full names, and then, in the same way, she sent greetings to the parents of her interlocutor.

BOWTIE
In the Bands Contest of 1986, the Gimnasio Moderno captivated the attention of the public with the famous “bowtie”, a figure achieved with the participation of all the members and which was decisive for the jury to award it first place.

POLYPHONIC
Girls from the Gimnasio de Nuestra Señora – known as Nena Cano – and from the Gimnasio Femenino met in the afternoons with the boys of the Gimnasio Moderno to sing to life, under the guidance of the teacher José Eleazar Leal.

A WEDDING ON CHILDREN’S DAY
One day María Helenita came out dressed as a bride from the Main Building. Her suitor was Francisco Amador, the Computers Teacher The wedding was blessed, before the confused eyes of the witnesses, by the Principal who was disguised as a bishop. The day ended and everything came back to reality

CULTURAL CENTER
25 years ago, the building where the “Ernesto Bein” Hall and the music and art rooms of the Gimnasio Moderno were inaugurated. It was the gift that the community gave to the city in its 450 years and since then it has established itself as the “ideal environment for culture in Bogotá”.

HISTORIC ARK
In the 75 years, Germán Pardo Sánchez gave Father Luis Carlos Mantilla the packages containing historical elements that were deposited 25 years ago in the school’s historic ark.

In the celebration of the Diamond Anniversary, Don Francisco Eudoro Romero, “Eudorito”, an employee who worked at the school for more than 70 years, helps install the plaque that covers the urn that will open on the day of the commemoration of the first centenary .

IN RECESS
The bell rings and everyone goes out for recess. The soccer matches are part of the program. In front of the grand Chapel of Cristo Rey and the modest kiosk, the children play before starting the next class, regardless of the gala uniform.

Before going on an excursion, the boys set up their tents in the school fields to be sure of how to do it and that there is no lack of rods or stakes.

COMMUNITY LIBRARIES
At the launch of Bogotá City Community Libraries, which was promoted by singer Gloria Estefan, eleventh-grade student Daniel Samper Ospina reminded attendees that it would always be cheaper to purchase a good book than a concert ticket from the popular artist.

HORSE RIDING COMPETITION
On the initiative of the students of the Sports Committee, the High School Soccer Field was adapted to carry out the First Equestrian Competition that called for lovers of this sport. Silvia Rosselli, a teacher for many years in the school preschool, was the great inspirer of this activity.

The School Dining Room became the ideal setting for students to show their musical skills on the morning of Gimnasian Talent.

THE GIMNASIAN SIGNAL
Camilo García, Jorge Ramírez, Amos Piñeros, Camilo De-Irisarri and Carlos Torres were members of the Radio Gimnasio Moderno team. They broadcasted their programs during recess, through a pirate transmitter built by themselves.
