THE BICENTENNIAL URN WAS CLOSED (2015)
The “Flight to the Bicentennial” urn was closed in celebration of the school’s 101st anniversary. It contains items such as emblems, uniforms, medals, community messages and books. There is also a DVD player and a 16-inch television set for future viewing of the school’s audiovisual archive. The urn was donated by Fichet of Colombia.
THE SCHOOL SPORTS CLUB WAS BORN (2015)
The District Institute of Recreation and Sports (IDRD) granted the school the endorsement to operate as a School Sports Club, which allows students to practice sports disciplines and participate in leagues and official competitions at the district and national level, receiving recognition for their performance and records.
DEBATE ON THE PEACE PROCESS (2015)
Leonel Riveros, student representative, together with the Social Area, organized a debate in the school on the peace process that the government was negotiating with the FARC. Students discussed issues such as the role of victims and the possibility of fair reparations, as well as the reinsertion of the actors of the armed conflict, presenting arguments from different positions.
JURY OF THE COMPARTIR AL MAESTRO AWARD (2015)
The principal of the school, Víctor Alberto Gómez Cusnir, was invited by Fundación Compartir to be part of the jury for the Compartir al Maestro Award 2015, a national recognition for teachers and rectors with innovative educational projects that improve the quality of life of students and communities. . The awards ceremony took place at the city’s Teatro Colón after its restoration.
DESKS FOR THE WAYÚU (2015)
The students of the Ninth B class were able to persuade the school to donate 30 desks and school supplies to the Wayúu community after learning about their work during their excursion to the upper Guajira. The parents financed the transportation of the material. The children received the donation with great enthusiasm, demonstrating that field trips can have a significant impact on the lives of the communities visited.
WINNERS IN OXFORD, ENGLAND (2015)
The delegation of students from the school that participated in the international Masters BEO Summer 2015 competition, which took place in Oxford, England, won the “Best Project Presentation” award in the competition where students from various countries design and develop a specific product and then present it, in English, as a business idea to a jury made up of industry leaders.
VISIT OF SVETLANA ALEXIEVICH, WINNER OF THE NOBEL PRIZE FOR LITERATURE (2016).
The 2015 Nobel Laureate in Literature, Svetlana Alexievich, visited the school’s facilities to speak at her conference on “30 years after Chernobyl”.
JODY WILLIAMS (2016)
The Cultural Center was the chosen setting for journalist Patricia Lara to talk, on the morning of Friday, April 29, 2016, with Jody Williams, the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate.
REOPENING OF THE FACULTY BUILDING (2016)
As part of the programming of the 2016 Closing Session, the school held the ceremonial acts to reopen the Faculty Building named after former Rector Daniel Samper Ortega, after a year of architectural intervention to strengthen its seismic-resistant structure and a comprehensive restoration.
AGUSTÍN NIETO CABALLERO SILVER MEDAL (2016)
During the Ceremonies held to end the 2016 school year, the Superior Council of Gimnasio Moderno decorated three teachers of the school: Betty Chorny de Salah, Myriam Bustamante and Nelson Cuervo; and an administrative officer, Doctor Eduardo Rueda Rojas.
POSITIVE PSYCHOLOGY (2017)
Gimnasio Moderno implemented the Positive Education training program, which had a profound impact on the well-being of students, teachers and collaborators.
J.M. COETZEE (2017)
The South African writer and novelist, John Maxwell Coetzee, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2003, visited the facilities of Gimnasio Moderno.
DEVELOPMENT PLAN AND MASTER PLAN (2018)
On October 24, 2018, the launch of the Development Plan was held, a comprehensive program that strengthened the academic processes within the school, through a curricular and architectural transformation.
NEW LIBRARY (2018)
After the reinforcement and restoration works, the Los Fundadores Library was re-inagurated by the 2010 Nobel Prize in Literature, Mario Vargas Llosa.

FAREWELL TO THE COLISEUM (2019)
The school community bid farewell to the Indoor Coliseum after having accompanied students and teachers for 73 years, with a big party attended by 215 people.
VIRTUAL CAMPUS (2020)
On March 16, 2020, Gimnasio Moderno had to reinvent itself during the uncertain times caused by the Covid -19 pandemic. The Virtual Campus emerged as an alternative for remote learning that allowed online classes to continue.
TWO DECADES OF THE SABIO (2020)
Gimnasio Sabio Caldas celebrated 20 years of offering quality education to hundreds of students in Ciudad Bolivar, standing out among all official schools in Bogota.
THE LOOKS SPEAK (2020)
After almost 8 months with the campus closed due to the Covid – 19 pandemic, students returned to school under an alternating model, with all the biosecurity protocols.
