After a careful and exhaustive selection process, with internal and external candidates, the Principal, Víctor Alberto Gómez Cusnir, appointed Marcela Betancourt González as the new vice-principal of the Gimnasio Moderno.
Marcela entered the Institution in 2013, with the purpose of implementing the Bilingualism Program in the school curriculum. For a year and a half, she has been working as the leader of the international accreditation process before the Council of International Schools (CIS).
This is the first time in the history of the school that a woman has held this important managerial position. A sign of equity and a sign of the transformations that will be implemented in the future, so that the Gimnasio Moderno can extend its pedagogical project to more people.
Among Marcela’s virtues, her more than 30 years of experience in international schools, her knowledge in the effective implementation of bilingualism programs in educational institutions and her trajectory in foreign accreditation processes stand out.
With her international vision, she will help the principal in the formation of the global citizenship of all students.
Marcela is above all a dynamic woman, full of energy, focused on success. A teacher who likes to teach and present new worlds to her students based on significant experiences in which, with wise complicity, she manages to exploit the potential of her students to the maximum.
She studied at the Fundación Universitaria FES, obtaining the title of Language Therapist in 1988 and in 2005 the Cambridge University – British Council Colombia awarded him the title of IN-SERVICE CERTIFICATE IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING (ICELT). She worked 21 years at Colegio Santamaría and 2 years at Los Alcaparros.
She is the youngest of 4 siblings, two men and two women, she is married to Alejandro Alonso and is the mother of 2 children.
