Welcome new students
On January 21st the Isabelita Holguín De Gómez Children’s Library welcomed the new sixty-four families of the Gimnasio’s community, who came to form the grade Montessori 1 and who will be the promotion 2032. With the aim of transmitting to both children, their parents and eleventh graders the great love of reading, the importance of books and the enjoyment of finding a wonderful place as the Library; a story was prepared in which all visitors had the opportunity to integrate and of course feel invited to visit the “library” as several children called it.
Each course accompanied by preschool teachers came to listen to a story called “Frog of Another Well”. The narrative uses family of frogs and the other members of the forest to let us understand the importance of making friends and understanding that we will always find different attitudes and that we must be willing to listen to others.
They obtained as a souvenir of their first visit to the Children’s Library of the School a beautiful bookmark, a mini-tale and the motivation to continue visiting us day by day, a place on which Maria E, Ruth and the charm of the books are always awaiting them with open arms.
Reading club
Every Friday during the recess, preschool and primary school children arrive quickly to the Children’s Library in order to listen to various stories. Some look for narratives, others want to learn about technology, science, discoveries, etc. The little ones are fascinated with books about dinosaurs, pirates, the world of the sea and the marvelous illustrations of great artists.
The Reading Club is set out as a fundamental scenario where children can take advantage of their breaks to share their interests and the ways of interpreting the world around them, always through reading, research, imagination and the methods to express their interests from a space of autonomy with the accompaniment and direction of the reading promotion team.
Promotion and encouragement to read
With the support of the teachers of the Spanish area every fortnight the children come to the Children’s Library to complement, through workshops prepared in advance, the topics they are researching for each project. In addition, the reading encouragement area supports the consolidation of the teaching sequences that each course manages. This support takes into account the provision of books and advice regarding references on the appropriate material for each topic that the students are investigating.
