On November 1, the students of the 11th grade astronomy group: Gregorio Posada, Juan Felipe Rodríguez, Manuel Felipe Rodríguez, Sebastián Martínez and Maximiliano Barraquer, along with the physics teachers, joined the campaign “Colombia seeks asteroids” affiliated to the IASC (International Astronomical Search), a program aimed at the collaboration of citizens around the world to analyze high-quality images taken by the Pan-Starrs telescope located in Hawaii in search of asteroids.
AstroGM, as the group was baptized, found about 20 objects that met the conditions to be classified as asteroids, of which 9 were classified as preliminary detections by the IASC.
We await confirmation of these findings, which are numbered and cataloged by Harvard’s Minor Planet Center.
