At the beginning of the mandatory preventive lockdown caused by the covid-19 health crisis, the directives of the Gimnasio Sabio Caldas met with the directives of the Gimnasio Moderno, to manifest their needs. After several meetings, the Principal of the Sabio Caldas, Ms. Ruth Estella García, carried out a diagnosis that allowed her to identify which students did not have access to technological tools or internet connection to continue their studies in a virtual environment.
In this way, three phases were prioritized so that the Gimnasio Moderno together with the Fundación Monsignor Emilio de Brigard and the Foundation Protección, could make donations of tablets with connectivity service of 5 gigabytes to be used in educational topics, 1 giga of free navigation, access to social networks and unlimited mail, 500 minutes for calls to any operator and 3000 SMS. All this to ensure the educational continuity of the students.
The first phase of donations was made to 94 high school students. The Foundation Monsignor Emilio De Brigard donated 97 tablets with connectivity for the students of the Sabio Caldas and 3 tablets with connectivity for the sponsored students, who had no way to continue their university studies. In addition, 2 laptops, 1 desktop computer and 3 tablets were delivered, which were donated by the community to students who did not have access to technological tools, but did have an internet connection.
Between April and May, the Gimnasio Moderno purchased the license for the 8×8 Video Meetings platform and activated the license for Google Meet, ensuring that students and teachers may strengthen learning processes and improve their virtual classes.
In early July, the Gimnasio Moderno asked the Sabio Caldas for a second student prioritization to know how many more tablets were needed for students to have access to virtual classes and not just educational guides. For such purpose, the Sabio Caldas needed 242 tablets for 100% of students to be covered with technological tools and internet connectivity. The Gimnasio Moderno donated 60 tablets and the Foundation Protección is expected to deliver the additional 182 tablets by mid-August. This will ensure that all the students community will continue to receive quality education virtually, while the public health situation returns to normality.
