The Seventh grade students, with the collaboration of teachers Pablo Parra and Yojana González, presented their final project, in which they developed activities in order to raise awareness about gender equality and talk about those obstacles that stand in the way of achieving equity in our society.
With the slogan “Different aspect, same value”, the school community introduced this series of activities that were inaugurated with the words of the Rector, Víctor Alberto Gómez Cusnir, who focused his speech on the importance of this day. In addition, he reflected on this issue from a context, mostly male, such as school. The inauguration continued with the interventions of the Vice Chancellor, Marcela Betancourt, the Academic Coordinator, Sandra Moreno and the journalist Claudia Palacios, who spoke about their experience as women in a labor field that is generally led by men.
Continuing with the day’s activities, a debate was held between panelists from the Gimnasio Moderno and the Gimnasio Femenino, who discussed reggaeton and its lyrics, in addition, they talked about freedom of expression in regards to women, the clothing they use and how to prevent discriminatory sexualization.
At 9:50 in the morning, the discussion began “Violence: Why is it so difficult to recognize it?” In this discussion, the university professor Nathalia Quiroz Molinares spoke about the different types of violence that not only affect women, but society in general and how the patriarchal system has developed in such a way that it can affect women in fields such as labor and psychological. In addition, the exhibitor presented different real cases that allowed a talk to be developed among the students, to make visible and raise awareness about this issue.
After an active break, a bingo was held that followed the gender equality line, where the typical BINGO letters were replaced by words alluding to the topic. The school students together with the girls from the Gimnasio Femenino, formed teams of 4 people and competed for different prizes, in a contest that depended on the cunning and luck of each group.
After the bingo awards and with a few words of thanks to the guests of the Gimnasio Femenino, Equally Day concluded, leaving as the main lesson that regardless of how different we may be, we all deserve to be treated fairly.
