On April 27, Radio Gimnasio Moderno celebrated 10950 days on air. It has been 30 years since it turned on its microphones so that all school members can express their voice, their thoughts, their tastes and their ideals.
In 1991, a group of students had the dream of creating a radio station at school. The teacher Carlos Yepes, led them with wise complicity and they created the radio studios that gave life to Radio Gimnasio Moderno, the first school station in the country, which began with daily broadcasts during recess.
The students got together and created radio programs such as Capando Clase [“Skipping Class”], Salón de Profesores [Teacher’s Lounge”], Ecos del Moderno [“School Echoes”], Radiomix, among others that were part of the programming. At the same time, the radio station began to be part of the academic life of the school, mixing the contents of some subjects with the production of pedagogical programs.
This is how the national media recorded this great project that the students of the school were leading.
Since then, many school members began to be part of this great project, not only students, but also parents, teachers and alumni, generating an open means of expression for the entire community.
Also, during these three decades, the station’s work team has shared its experience and knowledge with other institutions and has helped them create their own radio project.
The school radio station of Gimnasio Moderno has always been characterized by being one step ahead. It currently broadcasts 24 hours a day through the school’s website and mobile application, being a benchmark for other school radio stations in the country.
To celebrate its thirtieth anniversary, Radio Gimnasio Moderno will launch a book that collects its history and anecdotes.
Happy birthday Radio Gimnasio Moderno!
