INAUGURATION OF SPORTS OLYMPICS (February 2014)
During the Raising of the Flag on Monday, February 3 and with the presence of the delegations of the schools: Gimnasio Femenino, Los Nogales, Sabio Caldas, José Joaquín Casas, San Tarcicio, Gimnasio Campestre and Liceo Cervantes El Retiro, tribute was paid to the sportsmanship of school students.

The Olympic torch made its entrance around La Raqueta. It was carried by the student athletes of the school: Santiago Parra, Nicolás Arrázola and Juan Andrés Rincón Galvis.

From the third floor of the Main Building, the fire traveled through the air to the cauldron that lit up like the joy of the athletes. With this act, the Olympics were inaugurated, which were held throughout the centenary year.
CENTENARY MASS (March 2014)
The program for the day of the centenary celebration began with a Thanksgiving Mass offered by the Archbishop of Bogotá, Cardinal Monsignor Rubén Salazar Gómez (right), who had the collaboration of the Chaplain of the school, the priest Rafael De Brigard (2nd from left to right) and priest Franz Monroy (1st from left to right) who was Chaplain when the school turned 90 years old.
THE CHOIR AND THE ORCHESTRA (March 2014)
The mass was musically accompanied by the Batuta Bogotá Youth Symphony Orchestra and by the choir: “100 Voices of the community sing to the Centenary”, a project that was specially conceived for this occasion as a tribute to past choral projects such as the orfeón and the polyphonic.
THE IMPECCABLE BAND (March 2014)
In front of the community, who gathered at the school that day, the Band made an impeccable presentation in which martial arts and the figures they formed while playing and marching stood out. The applause of all the attendees was the best reward for the members of this student project that since 1957 has stimulated the training and autonomy processes of the students.

All the protocol acts were conducted by the former student of 1983, Jorge Alfredo Vargas, Social Communicator Journalist and renowned news presenter in the country, who dosed each of his interventions with great spirit.
THE COMMUNITY REPRESENTED (March 2014)
La bandera de Colombia fue izada por los dos exalumnos más antiguos del colegio que asistieron al evento: Gonzalo Samper García (1937) y Alfonso Dávila Ortiz (1938). El pabellón del colegio fue izado por el estudiante más pequeño del colegio: Juan David Quintero Cala, estudiante de Montessori I, quien recién había cumplido cuatro años de edad.
CENTENARY STAMP (March 2014)
The Government of Colombia, through the Ministry of Information and Communication Technologies and the Colombian Post Office 4-72, granted the school a postal issue commemorating its first century of existence.
MEDAL DEL FEMENINO (Marzo 2014)
The school friend of the Gimnasio Moderno, the Gimnasio Femenino, also founded by Agustín Nieto Caballero, gave the school the medal that bears the name of the person who was the rector of that institution for nearly 47 years: Ana Restrepo Del Corral.
CASKET FLIGHT TO THE BICENTENARY (March 2014)
The student Juan Felipe Apráez Abril, from Quinto Decroly, presented with a nice speech the urn that was donated by Fichet of Colombia and that will contain the history of the school through its first centenary. This heavy time capsule can only be opened on March 18, 2114.

Following the instructions of the story, the school collaborators, Edwin Ramírez and Bernardino Mateus, open the urn that was sealed 25 years earlier, in 1989, during the commemoration of the diamond jubilee of the Gimnasio Moderno.

Mrs. Gloria Nieto Cano, dressed in red and black, tells the students how to open the cylinder that contains some documents that she herself deposited, in 1939, when the Historical Urn was inaugurated. At the center of the image, with white hair, is Mr. Agustín Nieto Cano, another son of the founder who also attended the celebration.

These graduated students asked for the microphone to confess to the community that, in 1989, without anyone noticing and before the historic ballot box was sealed, they deposited a photograph of them conversing in La Raqueta as is customary in the school tradition.

VICTORY (March 2014)
Andrés Olivera celebrates one of the five goals that Moderno scored during the soccer match against the senior team at Gimnasio Campestre. The judge annulled one of them, leaving the 100-year cup 4-0 in favor of the hosts.
CENTENARY PUBLICATIONS (March 2014)
For the celebration, two of the most important books by Agustín Nieto Caballero were reissued: “Una Escuela” and “Los Maestros”. The book “Recordando a Don Tomás” was also published, which contains the best writings of Rueda Vargas. The teacher Pompilio Iriarte launched his book “Abuelo al Bicentenario” and the entire community began to complete the album of prints to commemorate the centenary.

On April 10, the student José Pablo Barrios Pulecio, from Montessori III, cut with the help of his father, the former student of 1982 and President of the Association of Parents, Luis Felipe Barrios Cadena, the tape that officially inaugurated the Interactive Museum.

On April 26, the Great Ball was held to commemorate the 100 years of the school. Before the fireworks, the main director toasted with attendees of all ages and promotions, wishing the institution a long life.

The Cultural Center was the venue where the Makoré Orchestra encouraged those attending the party, during which the camaraderie and friendliness of the school tradition was breathed until the wee hours of the morning.

SCIENTIST GRADUATED FROM THE COLLEGE (April 2014)
Rodolfo Llinás Riascos, a 1952 college graduate, was the guest speaker representing the community. His talk addressed the question: What does the neuroscience of education bring you? The nearly 30,000 followers of the transmission that was made on the Internet replicated the opinions of this prominent scientist on social networks.
HOW TO TEACH THINGS THAT ARE NOT FORGOTTEN? (April 2014)
It was the name of the conversation in which the founder of the Harvard ZERO project, David Perkins, participated. The moderation of this event was in charge of Victoria Botero, Primary Coordinator of the Modern Gymnasium. Vicky Colbert, Founder of Escuela Nueva and Patricia Martínez, Vice Minister of Higher Education also participated.
PROHIBITED EDUCATION (April 2014)
Germán Doin, director of the documentary “La Educación Prohibida” responded to the question: What kind of education would make sense in these times? His answers captivated the 600 spectators who attended the Cultural Center of the school.
SHARED SUMMIT (April 2014)
Hugo Pardo Kuklinski, in addition to participating in the programming of the Leaders for Education Summit, shared his vision of new technologies with the school teachers and students in talks. MATH MARATHON (May 2014)
Nearly 330 students belonging to eleven schools in the capital, participated on May 5 and 6 in the Mathematical Marathon that was organized within the framework of the Centenary celebration to stimulate, through playful exercises, a taste for exact sciences.
COLLECTIVE EXHIBITION (May 2014)
21 artists, including current teachers from the school and from previous years, exhibited more than 30 pieces of photography, drawing and painting in the Hall of the Rectory of the Main Building. A wide variety of expressions that turned that everyday space into a classroom for students..
RECOGNITION OF A LIFE (May 2014)
On Teacher’s Day, the Superior Council of the Gimnasio Moderno Foundation awarded the Silver Grade Agustín Nieto Caballero Medal to two of his oldest teachers: Mr. José Eleázar Leal Mora and Mr. Pompilio Iriarte Cadena; and to one of the most faithful collaborators of the school: Mrs. Bertha Rojas Hernández.
SCIENCE, HISTORY, MATHEMATICS AND TECHNOLOGY (May 2014)
It is the name of the talks that were held at different times of the year and to which experts were invited, most of them experts graduated from the school, to share with students and the general public about their profession, their experience, and their life. ANTIQUE AND CLASSIC (May 2014)
During the Great Festival or Bazaar, on May 17, the community came together based on a passion: cars. On La Raqueta, 33 true motorsport jewels were exhibited. The guest of honor was the school’s Green Jeep, which was fully restored by former student Camilo Sáenz Koop.
FIRST WINNERS (June 2014)
The Basketball team of the Cervantes El Retiro school was the first winner of the Centennial Olympics in which athletes from various schools in the city played jousts, in various categories, in disciplines such as: Basketball, Volleyball, Tennis, Soccer, Shooting Bow, Swimming and Chess. A way to pay tribute to the sporting spirit that has always been promulgated in the school.
STORY AND POETRY CONTEST (June 2014)
Winning students of the “Short Story and Poetry Contest: Isabelita Holguín de Gómez” that was held during the first semester of the year and in which 79 students from various friendly schools in the Capital participated. 5 categories were awarded in both modalities.

ALUMNI AWARDED IN GOLD DEGREE (August 2014)
On August 27, the Superior Council of the Modern Gymnasium Foundation, in an exclusive ceremony, presented the Gold Grade Agustín Nieto Caballero Medal to three outstanding alumni of the school: José Pablo Uricoechea Corena (q.e.p.d) from the class of 1953, Andrés Chaustre Hernández, former student of 1958 and Carlos Mazabel Rozo graduated in 1961.

On September 20, the Alumni Meeting was held. Around the II Meeting of Antique and Classic Cars owned by the graduates, all the alumni of the school met to celebrate the centenary of the institution, witness the launch of the Book that tells the story of the 100 years and participate in the closing of the Historic Urn.

To commemorate the school’s tradition of representing plays, students from Moderno and students from Femenino presented the original play “Las Convulsiones” by Colombian playwright Luis Vargas Tejada on October 3. NOBEL OF MEDICINE (October 2014)
On October 6, Dr. Harald zur Hausen visited Bogotá at the invitation of the Gimnasio Moderno. During his short stay in the Capital, the Nobel Prize-winning scientist shared with those attending the Symposium: “Importance of the discovery of HPV, its Benefits and Future” his most advanced research on the Human Papilloma Virus and its broad relationship with cancer of cervix..
THEATER FESTIVAL (October 2014)
For four days, the Art Area of the school held the Agustín Nieto Caballero Theater Festival in its XXXI version, in which schools from the city such as Juan Evangelista Gómez, Juan Ramón Jiménez, the Modern Gymnasium, the Charlot Academy and the German school of Cali.
ROYAL VISIT (October 2014)
Prince Charles of England visited the schools campus during his tour of Latin America to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the British Council.
CHRISTMAS EVENT (December 2014)
To close the commemorative activities of the centenary, on December 5, with the collaboration of the Parents’ Association, “La Kermesse y Recital de Navidad” was held, an event in which the children’s choirs of the Gimnasio Femenino y Gimnasio Moderno schools; there was also a special presentation of the Choir: 100 Voices Sing to the Centennial.
