Jorge Espitia Restrepo always fondly remembers his teachers Lorena López and Dorita Salazar. During his school years, they encouraged him to follow his dreams and helped him develop his skills. Their influence was so great that at the age of 12, Jorge was accepted into Misi Producciones, where he was awarded a scholarship for his impressive talent.
After graduating from school in 2016, Jorge fulfilled his dream of studying Musical Theatre at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA) in Manhattan, New York. Since then, he has had a successful career in Broadway and other international stages. His stage skills have led him to participate in renowned works such as “West Side Story”, “Charlie Brown: A Christmas Spectacular”, and “Alice Through the Looking Glass” (Ballet), in addition to working on set design alongside director James Morgan at the York Theatre in the Big Apple.
In late 2022, Jorge produced, directed, and acted in the Off-Broadway hit “Afterglow” in Manhattan. The play was presented at the “El Conejo Blanco” hall of the Vive Astor Plaza theatre in Bogotá. His main goal as an artist has always been to highlight the art of Colombia to the world, and he is proving it with great success.
Jorge Espitia Restrepo is an inspiring example of how the support of good teachers can make a difference in a student’s life, and how perseverance and talent can lead to great achievements. The Gimnasio Moderno and its Association of Alumni are proud of his career achievements and hope that his trajectory will continue to inspire future generations.
