The Full Board of the Gimnasio Moderno Foundation celebrates the appointment of the outstanding gymnast, Juan Sebastián Hoyos Montes, as the new rector of Gimnasio Moderno. On this occasion, it expresses a message of congratulations to the Superior Council for leading the selection process that has culminated in an election of outstanding excellence. He also expresses his deep gratitude and praises the transforming work that Víctor Alberto Gómez Cusnir carried out during 12 years at the head of the school’s rector’s office.

Juan Sebastian is recognized as a renowned teacher, not only within the borders of Colombia, but also throughout Latin America, and has stood out for his dedication to character education and the promotion of the pedagogy of emotions. He perfectly embodies the foundational principles promoted by the gymnastic spirit and the Discipline of Confidence.

His depth of knowledge and experience within our institution is unsurpassed. From his early days as a teacher at Gimnasio Sabio Caldas, a member of the boards of the Monsignor Emilio de Brigard Foundation, Apoyo y Fomento de la Educación, and the Alumni Association at Gimnasio Moderno, to serving in key roles as teacher, area coordinator, tutor, Secretary General, and Vice Rector, Juan Sebastian has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to our educational community. Few individuals can match his deep knowledge of the Gimnasio in all its pedagogical, administrative and legal facets, and the goal he has cultivated of leading our institution since he joined as a student in 1986 is a testament to his unwavering dedication.

We are fully confident that Juan Sebastián will continue to drive and lead the present and future transformations that the name of Gimnasio Moderno represents for our community and for the national and international educational revolution. We are confident that his leadership will take our institution to new horizons, without losing sight of our liberal and humanistic foundations, which are naturally personified by Juan Sebastián.

Not surprisingly, Juan Sebastián’s appointment has been greeted with unanimous celebration by students, faculty, parents, alumni and the Gimnasio Moderno community at large, of which we are proud to be a part. Juan Sebastián has the respect, admiration and affection of all gymnasians, who welcome him warmly to what has always been his home.

We are firmly convinced that, under Juan Sebastián’s leadership, the Gimnasio Moderno community will achieve an exceptional future. We look forward to working hand in hand with him to realize the great ambitions that his vision inspires.
