Gimnasio Moderno has established a new role in its organizational structure: the Director of School Environment and Coexistence, aligned with international child protection standards. This new position will be held by María Fernanda Higuera, a graduate in Early Childhood Education, who brings extensive experience in child welfare and safety.
María Fernanda Higuera will be responsible for developing strategies to strengthen school coexistence, working directly with students, teachers, administrative staff, and families. Her work will focus on promoting a culture of well-being, based on the ethics of care and restorative practices, with the goal of encouraging students to reflect on their behavior and propose ways to make amends for conflicts.
Among her main duties will be educating the entire school community on identifying risk signals and implementing early warning systems. Additionally, she will lead training sessions on social-emotional competencies, fostering a safe and protective environment for children and young people.
As the leader of the Coexistence Committee, her approach will be participatory, inviting students and families to actively engage in building a harmonious school environment. Higuera emphasizes that her goal is for this committee to be a space for reflection and prevention, rather than solely for conflict resolution.
With a strong background in international cooperation projects and child protection, María Fernanda Higuera joins the Gimnasio Moderno team with the mission of enhancing the school environment and ensuring the overall well-being of its students.
